Aruppukkottai is one of the famous cities in India. Aruppukkottai is a city and a municipality in Virudhunagar district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Sri Ramana Maharishi was born in Tiruchuli near Aruppukottai town. It has an average elevation of 97 meters. As of 2001 India census India, Aruppukkottai had a population of 83,999. Males constitute 50 percent of the population and females 50 percent. Aruppukkottai has an average literacy rate of 79 percent, higher than the national average of 59.5 percent, with 54 percent of the males and 46 percent of females literate.
 
Aruppukottai acts mainly as an educational and commercial hub for the surrounding areas, mainly villages. There is an Engineering College, Two Arts & Science Colleges and more than five Schools of Higher Secondary level. It is noted for its cotton industries and limestone industries.Aruppukottai has best schools like Devangar Hr Secondary School, SBK Hr Sec School. These schools have produced lot of students who in turn are carrying Aruppukottai flag high. Occupation of the people here range from the labours working for the cotton and rice mills around and building contract labours to government employees and professionals.
 
Aruppukottai was once known for its handloom weaving industry. Nowadays, we can hardly see such in-house handloom industries.Agriculture is also a main concern in surrounding areas. Transportation are include it acts as a hub connecting Madurai, Thoothukudi, Muthuramalingapuram, Virudhunagar, and Ramanathapuram.
