Ghazipur is a town in Uttar Pradesh, India, on the Ganges River. It is the administrative headquarters of Ghazipur District. Ghazipur is famous for India's only legal opium factory. There is also handloom weaving and a perfume industry. The town is an important agricultural market.
 
The town is very close to the Uttar Pradesh Bihar border. The local language at the place is Bhojpuri. Ghazipur borders with the important religious city of Varanasi and is situated about 70 kilometers east of Varanasi. The population of Ghazipur according to the 2001 census was 103,283 inhabitants.
