It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. Chandrapur is a city in central India, in the eastern portion of the state of Maharashtra. It is the administrative headquarters of Chandrapur District. Chandrapur is also known as Chanda. It has various power generation units. The region is very rich in mineral wealth. Many cement factories are located in this region. Chandrapur district is located in the eastern edge of Maharashtra in Nagpur division and forms the eastern part of Vidharbha region.
 
Chandrapur formerly known as Chanda is a city situated in eastern Maharashtra state, Central India. Wardha River flows near the city. Chandrapur was the capital of the Gond dynasty from the 12th to the 18th century and was later conquered by the Maratha Bhosles from Nagpur. It formed part of the British Central Provinces from 1854 until Indian independence in 1947.  The tombs of the Gond kings and several temples are in the town.

In 1991 Chandrapur had 2.24 percent of state population over 3.72 percent of its area and in 2001 it came down to 2.14 percent. There are some historical forts, old temples and picnic spots in the districts.

It is also known as the city of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
