Chiplun




India officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. India is a union of twenty-eight states and seven federally-governed union territories. New Delhi is the capital of India.
 
Chiplun is a city on the Mumbai Goa highway in western India. The city is about 320 kilometers south of Mumbai in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. It is an industrial town catering to mostly the top pharmaceutical and chemical industries. It is a major stop on the Konkan Railway. The name Chiplun means the abode of Lord Parshuram.
 
The city lies on the banks of the river Vashishti. To the east of the city lies the Western Ghats. To the west lies Guhagar Beach, about 50 kilometers. The region is hilly and the city is situated in a valley. The region has extreme climate, cold in winter, very hot in summer and very wet. Winter temperatures dip to about 10 degree Celsius at night, but the chill factor makes it seem much lower. Summer days are extremely hot. The rainy season the monsoons last from June until October. The city is located at 10.76 meter above sea level. The city is surrounded on all four sides by hills.
 
Chiplun has a population of 60,000. The main language spoken is Marathi although almost all the people can speak Hindi. Spoken English is a rarity in Chiplun although quite a few people can read the language.
 
Since the city is on a major National Highway, there are adequate accommodations, including hotels, motels and lodges including a five-star hotel. It is also a junction for those travelling to the Enron Power Project. The city links the western coast to the interior parts of Maharashtra, one of the few places in that region.
 
The city has its own drama theatre Indira Gandhi Sanskrutik Kendra, and a stadium for sports is being constructed. A municipal council looks after the civic needs of the city. United English school and D.B.J. College are the oldest education institute in the city catering the need for the taluka.

It can also be considered as the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destination that enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
