Kanagawa is part of the Greater Tokyo Area. The city was founded on April 1, 1932. In 2003, the population of the city was 255,754 and an area of 67.83 square kilometers.  
 
Hiratsuka is located approximately 60 kilometers away from Tokyo to the south-west. It is located almost in the center of Kanagawa region in the southern part of the Sagami Plain. The city is favored with a mild climate in all four seasons. Hiratsuka is an active town both in culture and in sports so that various generations communicate with each other like stars in the Milky Way.
