Japan is an island country in East Asia. It is located in the Pacific Ocean it lies to the east of China, Korea, and Russia, stretching from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea in the south. Its capital and largest city is Tokyo. It has the world's 10th largest population. It is world's largest international creditor and is the sixth largest exporter and importer and is a member of the United Nations. And it is a leading nation in the fields of scientific research, technology, machinery, and medical research with the world's third largest budget for research and development.
 
Nagano is the capital city of Nagano Prefecture, situated in the northern part of the prefecture near the junction of the Chikuma River and the Sai River, on the main island of Honshu, Japan. As of July 1, 2006, the city has an estimated population of 378,059. The total land area is 737.86 square kilometers.
 
Nagano is most famous for the 7th century Buddhist temple, Zenko-ji, which overlooks the city. A million tourists visit Nagano City annually, the gateway to a variety of sightseeing spots. Nagano was originally a small town in Kamiminochi District built around the hilltop temple, the largest wooden building in eastern Japan, but the city now located within Sarashina, Hanishina, and Kamitakai Districts.
 
The historic site of the Battles of Kawanakajima has been retained as parkland, with a municipal museum of the history of the Zenkoji plain. Matsuhiro, the former castle town of the Sanada clan, is located in the southern part of the city. The town retains an historical atmosphere, preserving many old samurai residences, temples, and gardens of the feudal period, including the remains of the castle and mansion of feudal lord Sanada Jumangoku.

It is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in Japan worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of Japan.
