Porbandar pronunciation is a coastal city in the Indian state of Gujarat, perhaps best known for being the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. It is the administrative center of Porbandar District. The name Porbandar came from the combination of two words Porai, the name of a local goddess, and Bandar means port or harbour. Thus, Porbandar translates to Porai's harbour.

The places of interest include Kirti Mandir Birthplace of Gandhi, Sudama Mandir, Nehru Planetarium, Bharat Mandir, Gita Mandir, Rokhadia Hanuman temple, Sandipani Vidhya Niketan. As of 2001 India census, Porbandar had a population of 133,083 inhabitants. The males constitute 51 percent of the population and females 49 percent.
