India officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. India is a union of twenty-eight states and seven federally-governed union territories. New Delhi is the capital of India.
 
Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya, one of the smaller states in India. It is also the district headquarters of East Khasi Hills District and is situated at an altitude of 4,908 feet above sea level. The city has a population of approximately 2,360,069 inhabitants according to the 2001 census.
 
Shillong has one of the largest golf courses in Asia and the golf course is called Glen Eagle of the East. It enjoys the rare distinction of being one of the few natural golf courses in Asia. Not only is the Shillong course scenic and enjoyable, it is also challenging. Shillong also has a large number of Hindus and Sikhs. A small number of Muslims are also resident in Shillong. The Ramakrishna Mission has its presence in Shillong and it is said that Swami Vivekananda had also visited Shillong once.

Shillong experiences a boom with day tourists, owing to the clear air, town character with rich culture, high quality of life and conspicuously original history. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of nature, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people also combine to make this region one of the most important tourist attractions in India.
