It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. Vizianagaram is the main city of the Vizianagaram District of North Eastern Andhra Pradesh in Southern India. Vizianagaram district was formed on the 1st of June 1979, with some parts carved from the neighbouring districts of Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam. The population of the city is 174,324 in 2001 census. It is located about 18 km inland from the Bay of Bengal, and 40 kilometers northeast of Visakhapatnam. It is also sometimes referred to as the city of education in these parts as there are many colleges and schools here. It has an average elevation of 74 meters.
 
As of 2001 India India, Vizianagaram had a population of 174,324. Males constitute 49 percent of the population and females 51 percent. Vizianagaram has an average literacy rate of 68 percent, higher than the national average of 59.5 percent, male literacy is 75 percent, and female literacy is 62 percent. In Vizianagaram, 10 percent of the population is under 6 years of age.
