India officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. Arrah is one of the cities in India. Arrah is known for a battle during the British occupation of India. During the Indian rebellion of 1857, a small party of British officers and Indian soldiers were besieged in the Little House at Arrah, the district headquarters. They withstood the siege for three weeks until relieved by British troops. Arrah is a city and a municipality in Bhojpur district in the state of Bihar, India. It is the district headquarters of Bhojpur district and is located 36 miles from Patna. According to the 2001 census, population density was 203,395.

Arrah has an average literacy rate of 67 percent,  higher than the national average of 59.5 percent,  with 60 percent of the males and 40 percent of females literate.
