India officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. Gwalior pronunciation is a city in Madhya Pradesh in India. It lies 122 kilometers south of Agra with a population of 690,342 inhabitants. Gwalior occupies a strategic location in the Gird region of North India, and the city and its fortress have served as the center of several of North India's historic kingdoms. Gwalior is the administrative headquarters of Gwalior district and Gwalior division. The population of the city was 16, 29,881 inhabitants in the year 2001 with an area of 5214 square kilometers.
 
Lashkar is derived from the Persian lashkar, meaning army, or camp, as it was originally the camp, and later the permanent capital, of the Scindia dynasty of Gwalior state. Morar, formerly a separate town, lies three miles east of the old city. It was formerly a British military cantonment.
