Mussoorie

India officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second most populous country, and the most populous liberal democracy in the world. India is a union of twenty-eight states and seven federally-governed union territories. New Delhi is the capital of India.

Mussoorie is a municipality and a municipal board, about 30 kilometers from and in Dehradun district in the Indian state of Uttaranchal. This hill station, located in the foothills of the Himalaya ranges, is also known as the Queen of the Hills. The adjoining town of Landour, which includes a military cantonment, is considered part of greater Mussoorie as are the townships of Barlowganj and Jharipani.

Mussoorie suffers from over-development of hotels and tourist lodges, given its relative proximity to Delhi, Ambala and Chandigarh and has serious problems of garbage collection, water scarcity and parking shortages, especially during the summer tourist season. In 2001, the population of the city was 26,069. Males constitute 56 percent of the population and females 44 percent. Mussoori has an average literacy rate of 79 percent, higher than the national average of 59.5 percent: male literacy is 84 percent, and female literacy is 73 percent. In Mussoori, 10 percent of the population is under 6 years of age.

India is a popular travel destination for visitors and globe trotters from all over the world who appreciate its beautiful landscapes, rich culture, various local cuisine, hospitality and safety.
