Chamoli Gopeshwar is a town in Chamoli district in the state of Uttaranchal, India. As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Chamoli Gopeshwar had a population of 19,855. Chamoli Gopeshwar has an average literacy rate of 81 percent.
Chamoli is a district of Uttaranchal state of India. It is bounded by the Tibet region of China to the north, and by the Uttaranchal districts of Pithoragarh and Bageshwar to the east, Almora to the south, Garhwal to the southwest, Rudraprayag to the west, and Uttarkashi to the northwest. The administrative headquarters of the district is Gopeshwar. The district is largely inhabited by Tibetans of the Bhotiya ethnic group who adhere to Hinduism.
Uttaranchal became the 27th state of the Republic of India on November 9, 2000. Uttaranchal borders Tibet to the north and Nepal to the east, while its neighbour states are Himachal Pradesh to the west and Uttar Pradesh in the south.
