Anakapalle is one of the famous town in India. Anakapalle is a town in the Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, a state in India. It has an average elevation of 26 metres. As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Anakapalle had a population of 84,523. Males constitute 50 percent of the population and females 50 percent. Anakapalle has an average literacy rate of 67 percent, higher than the national average of 59.5 percent; with 54 percent of the males and 46 percent of females literate. 10 percent of the population is under 6 years of age.
 
The town was originally under the rule of the Kalinga Empire, and later came under the rule of the Gajapati, Telugu, and Qutb Shahi empires. Around 1450, Appalaraju began to rule the region under the Nawab of Arcot, with Anakapalle as his fortified headquarters. When the British took control of the area in 1803, local leaders were poisoned or hung.
 
Appalaraju had a temple built to Kakatambika, a family goddess. The temple exists to this day, now controlled by the Endowments Department, a controversial government bureau that manages many Hindu temples. On Kottha Amavasya, the Telugan New Year’s Eve, thousands of people from Andhra Pradesh come to the temple to worship. Anakapalle is also known for the nearby ruins of a Buddhist temple known as Bojjannakonda, or Sankaram.
 
The chief crop cultivated in the region is sugarcane, and Anakapalle is well known for its jaggery industry. It is the largest source of jaggery for southern India, and the second largest for all of India. Velagapudi Steels also owns a steel mill near Anakapalle.
